REDDSTAR’s New Single “Surv1v3” – Review

REDDSTAR’S new single, “Surv1v3,” is a fist-pumping anthem against the dark and heavy thoughts that creep into a person’s brain in times of despair. The song’s sober lyrics will touch anyone who has stared into the abyss but came out the other side, no matter how long the battle persisted (or persists).

Daemien Drake’s vocals soar above the song’s hopeful but distorted chorus, leaving no doubt that “Surv1v3” is an intensely personal song for Drake. He is an open wound and wants us to bring our wounds into his mostly cathartic lament—hints of suspicion keep the song on the street level—for help and support from anyone feeling blue.

“Surv1v3”  features two distinct interludes that capture the emo-industrial metal sound that Nine Inch Nails made famous in the early 90s. These interludes add a welcomed spraying of techno-grunge graffiti to Reddstar’s hard rock sound.

The number 13 is ciphered into the song’s title, an angel number that means rebirth, being a better version of yourself. The narrative says that metaphor is dead, but Reddstar has the “not today, kiddo” audio receipt to keep our hearts from the soulless beep of the flatline. “SURV1V3” is out now.
